I make my art because I need it for my 3D intermediate wheel class. I do what makes me happy which usually consists of some sort of nature theme or my favorite colors blue and purple. I don’t plan to do wheel throwing or jewelry making in my future. I do want to be able to be creative in the job that I have though and I think it’s good that I use my creativity in this way. I really like being able to express myself and do what I want for my projects. I like taking an art class because sometimes in school, I feel like we are being pushed to not be creative and be like everyone else. It helps me stay grounded when I can work with my hands and get away from the stress of tests and essays.
I always start my project with a general idea of what I want to do. I like how we do journal entries as homework because it helps me get my ideas out on paper and figure out what I like and what I don’t like. At the same time though, sometimes I do change what I want to do in the middle of a project. Occasionally, I come up with new ideas, or something doesn't work out as I'd like it to, so I change my project some to make it better! I select the themes I do for my pieces because they make me happy! I want to do things that I like, because if i don’t like it why should anyone else. My projects often have nature themes or involve my favorite colors because it makes me happy to have those themes in my work.
My projects often have nature roots because I really like nature and animals! As a kid, my family went on lots of hikes and I played outside often. I find myself going back to those roots when I come up with ideas for my projects. When using themes like these I’m attempting to express myself and what I love through my art. My art is not really meant to be thought provoking, or a statement about society. I like making things that I love and that I would be happy to see my mom put on the mantel.
